A Whole Body Dosimetry Protocol for Peptide-Receptor Radionuclide Therapy (PRRT): 2D Planar Image and Hybrid 2D+3D SPECT/CT Image Methods
This method estimates the absorbed dose of different structures for peptide-receptor-radionuclide-therapy (PRRT) with the possibility of avoiding organ overlap on 2D-projections. Serial whole-body planar images permit estimation of mean absorbed doses along the whole body, while the hybrid approach, combining planar images and 3D-SPECT/CT image, overcomes the limitations of structure overlapping.

A Plasma Sample Preparation for Mass Spectrometry using an Automated Workstation
Here, we present an automated plasma protein digestion method for mass spectrometry-based quantitative proteomic analysis. In this protocol, the liquid transferring and incubation steps for protein denaturation, reduction, alkylation, and trypsin digestion reactions are streamlined and automated. It takes approximately five hours to prepare a 96-well plate with desired precision.

Development of Abbreviated Versions of the Word Auditory Recognition and Recall Measure
Objectives: The objective of this study was to develop and evaluate abbreviated versions of the Word Auditory Recognition and Recall Measure (WARRM) as part of an iterative process in the development of a feasible test for potential future clinical use. Design: The three original WARRM (O-WARRM) randomizations were modified by altering the presentation paradigm. Instead of presenting 5 trials per set size with set size increasing from 2 to 6 as in the O-WARRM (n = 100 words), the experimental...

Operationalization of the Brief ICF Core Set for Hearing Loss: An ICF-Based e-Intake Tool in Clinical Otology and Audiology Practice
Objectives: According to the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF), functioning reflects the interplay between an individual’s body structures and functions, activities, participation, environmental, and personal factors. To be useful in clinical practice, these concepts need to be operationalized into a practical and integral instrument. The Brief ICF Core Set for Hearing Loss (CSHL) provides a minimum standard for the assessment of functioning in adults with...

Comparison of Pure-Tone Thresholds and Cochlear Microphonics Thresholds in Pediatric Cochlear Implant Patients
Objectives: In adult cochlear implant patients, conventional audiometry is used to measure postoperative residual hearing which requires active listening and patient feedback. However, audiological measurements in pediatric cochlear implant patients are both challenging as well as time consuming. Intracochlear electrocochleography (ECOG) offers an objective and a time-efficient method to measure frequency-specific cochlear microphonic or difference thresholds (CM/DIF) thresholds that closely approximate...

Incidence of Epinephrine Reactions With Local Anesthesia in Mohs Micrographic Surgery
BACKGROUND The incidence of reactions to epinephrine-containing local anesthetics in Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS) has not been established. OBJECTIVE To estimate the incidence of epinephrine-induced reactions from local anesthetics in patients who undergo MMS for the removal of cutaneous malignancies. METHODS From 2016 to 2018, 200 MMS patients were recruited from the authors' surgical center. Assessments were obtained throughout the entirety of the Mohs cases during a single visit. ...

Multimedia Technology Used to Supplement Patient Consent for Mohs Micrographic Surgery
BACKGROUND The patient consent process traditionally relies on conversations between the physician and the patient and rarely utilizes supplemental multimedia aids. OBJECTIVE To determine whether the addition of an educational video on Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS) can improve patient satisfaction with the consent process. MATERIALS AND METHODS This prospective observational quality improvement study compared the outcomes of traditional patient consent alone versus standard consent...

BACKGROUND Multimedia educational materials have been found to improve aspects of informed consent, although data in the context of Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS) is limited. OBJECTIVE To assess whether a preoperative educational video decreases anxiety, increases comprehension, and improves overall satisfaction for patients undergoing same-day office consultation and MMS. MATERIALS AND METHODS This single-center randomized controlled trial included patients above the age of 18 years...

BACKGROUND Insurance companies have implemented new policies including excessive prior authorization (PA) requirements, high-deductible plans, and complicated billing structures in an effort to curb rising health care costs. Studies investigating the real-time impact on providers and patients are emerging, but few within the field of dermatology have been published. OBJECTIVE To assess the impact of cost-cutting policies on patients and physicians. METHODS A survey was electronically...

Blinded, Randomized, Controlled Trial Evaluating the Effects of Light-Emitting Diode Photomodulation on Lower Extremity Wounds Left to Heal by Secondary Intention
BACKGROUND Light-emitting diode (LED) has been used for wound healing because of its stimulatory effects on fibroblast proliferation, matrix synthesis, angiogenesis, and downmodulation of inflammatory reactions. OBJECTIVE The aim of the authors' study was to investigate the effects of red LED (wavelength 633 nm) photomodulation on lower extremity surgical defects left to heal by secondary intention. MATERIALS AND METHODS Fourteen subjects with surgical defects of the lower leg were irradiated...

Intralesional Triamcinolone May Not Be Beneficial for Treating Acute Hidradenitis Suppurativa Lesions: A Double-Blind, Randomized, Placebo-Controlled Trial
BACKGROUND Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic, inflammatory condition characterized by recurrent nodules, sinus tracts, comedones, and scarring. Hidradenitis suppurativa is often associated with pain and decreased quality of life. Limited clinical trial data exist regarding the management of acute HS lesions, but clinical experience and a prospective case series suggest that intralesional triamcinolone may be useful. OBJECTIVE To compare the efficacy of intralesional triamcinolone...

Hyfrecation and Interference With Implantable Cardiac Devices
BACKGROUND Mohs micrographic surgery, excisional surgery, and electrodessication and curettage (ED&C) are common dermatologic procedures that often use electrodessication through hyfrecators to achieve hemostasis. According to in vitro studies, electrodessication is considered safe in patients with implanted cardiac devices. To the authors' knowledge, there are no in vivo data to support this claim. OBJECTIVE In this study, the authors aim to describe the outcomes of hyfrecation during...

Comparison of 2-Octylcyanoacrylate Versus 5-0 Fast-Absorbing Gut During Linear Wound Closures and the Effect on Wound Cosmesis
BACKGROUND Although the use of 2-octylcyanoacrylate (OCA) in cutaneous surgery offers increased efficiency, there is scant data comparing scar outcomes achieved with OCA versus 5-0 fast-absorbing gut suture (FG). OBJECTIVE To compare scar cosmesis achieved with OCA versus FG for surgical wound closure. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 44 patients with postoperative defects of at least 3 cm were included. Half of each wound was randomized to receive closure with either OCA or FG. At 3...
