Spatio-temporal correlations between catastrophe events in a microtubule bundle: a computational study
Abstract We explore correlations between dynamics of different microtubules in a bundle, via numerical simulations, using a one-dimensional stochastic model of a microtubule. The guanosine triphosphate (GTP)-bound tubulins undergo diffusion-limited binding to the tip. Random hydrolysis events take place along the microtubule and converts the bound GTP in tubulin to guanosine diphosphate (GDP). The microtubule starts depolymerising when the monomer at the tip becomes GDP-bound;...

Real‐world treatment patterns for patients with metastatic head and neck squamous cell carcinoma treated with immuno‐oncology therapy
Abstract Background Real‐world use of immuno‐oncology (IO) therapies (nivolumab and pembrolizumab) in metastatic head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (mHNSCC) has not been well studied. Methods mHNSCC patients treated with an IO therapy were identified from a large US claims database from 2016 to 2017. Treatment patterns before and after initiation of IO therapy (index date) were described. Results Among 416 mHNSCC patients, 85% had ≥1 regimen prior to IO therapy. Ninety‐seven...

An update on the implications of cyclin D1 in melanomas
Abstract Cyclin D1 is a protein encoded by the CCND1 gene, located on 11q13 chromosome, which is a key component of the physiological regulation of the cell cycle. CCND1/cyclin D1 is upregulated in several types of human tumors including melanoma and is currently classified as an oncogene that promotes uncontrolled cell proliferation. Despite the demonstrated importance of CCND1/cyclin D1 as a central oncogene in several types of human tumors, its knowledge in melanoma is still limited. This review...

Novel role for CRK adaptor proteins as essential components of SRC/FAK signaling for epithelial‐mesenchymal transition and colorectal cancer aggressiveness
Epithelial‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) is a cell plasticity process required for metastasis and chemoresistance of carcinoma cells. We report a crucial role of the signal adaptor proteins CRK and CRKL in promoting EMT and tumor aggressiveness, as well as resistance against chemotherapy in colorectal and pancreatic carcinoma. Genetic loss of either CRKL or CRK partially counteracted EMT in three independent cancer cell lines. Strikingly, complete loss of the CRK family shifted cells strongly towards...
