Prognostic Factors for Development of Subsequent Metastases in Localized Osteosarcoma: A Systematic Review and Identification of Literature Gaps
Aim. To investigate prognostic factors in pediatric and young adult patients with localized osteosarcoma that could predict the development of subsequent pulmonary metastases and lead to an ability to risk-stratify therapy. We performed a systematic review of the literature published since January 1990 to establish common evidence-based prognostic factors. Methods. PubMed and Embase searches (Jan 1990–Aug 2018) were performed. Two reviewers independently selected papers for patients with localized...

Several randomized studies have compared intraoperative methadone to morphine regarding postsurgical analgesia, but they have generated conflicting results. The aim of this investigation was to compare the analgesic efficacy of intraoperative methadone to morphine in patients undergoing surgical procedures. Methods. We performed a quantitative systematic review of randomized...

The Role of Clopidogrel in 2020: A Reappraisal
Antiplatelet therapy is the mainstay of treatment and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease (CVD), including acute coronary syndrome (ACS), transient ischemic attack (TIA) or minor stroke, and peripheral artery disease (PAD). The P2Y12 inhibitors, of which clopidogrel was the first, play an integral role in antiplatelet therapy and therefore in the treatment and secondary prevention of CVD. This review discusses the available evidence concerning antiplatelet therapy in patients with CVD,...

Hirudiniasis in Cattle in Mpwapwa District, Dodoma Region of Tanzania
Hirudiniasis is a condition caused by infestation by leeches. Despite the annoyance, clinical signs, and associated lesions caused by leeches in both humans and animals, the extent of the problem in Tanzania is not well elucidated. Individual animals and people become infested when they drink, bath, or walk through contaminated water sources. Leech infestations are more common in rural areas where water is scarce especially during the dry season. In this report, clinical cases of hirudiniasis in...

Quantized Dissipative Observer-Based Output Feedback Control for a Class of Markovian Descriptor Jump Systems with Communication Delay
This paper investigates the problem of quantized dissipative observer-based output feedback control of Markovian descriptor jump systems with unavailable states, appearing networked-induced delay. The descriptor systems are presented as Markovian jump systems which give a more realistic presentation for a variety of nonlinear dynamical systems than conventional state-space representation. To accomplish the objective, a uniform framework is employed to design the delayed Markov observer-based controller...

Sine Cosine Algorithm with Multigroup and Multistrategy for Solving CVRP
Sine Cosine Algorithm (SCA) has been proved to be superior to some existing traditional optimization algorithms owing to its unique optimization principle. However, there are still disadvantages such as low solution accuracy and poor global search ability. Aiming at the shortcomings of the sine cosine algorithm, a multigroup multistrategy SCA algorithm (MMSCA) is proposed in this paper. The algorithm executes multiple populations in parallel, and each population executes a different optimization...

The Essential Thrombocythemia, Thrombotic Risk Stratification, and Cardiovascular Risk Factors
Essential thrombocythemia is a rare hematological malignancy with good overall survival, but moderate to high risk of developing arterial or venous thrombosis lifelong. Different thrombotic risk scores for patients with essential thrombocythemia have been proposed, but only one of them (the IPSET-t scoring system) takes into account the classical cardiovascular risk factors as one of the scoring items. Currently, in clinical practice, the presence of cardiovascular risk factors in patients with diagnosis...

A New Perspective to Algebraic Characterization on Controllability of Multiagent Systems
Recently, algebraic characterization of multiagent controllability through its topology has been widely concerned by the systems and control community. The controllability of leader-follower networked multiagent systems under the framework of generic linear dynamics is firstly discussed via λ-matrix. Some new algebra-theoretic necessary and/or sufficient conditions of the controllability for generic linear multiagent systems are established. Moreover, the controllable conditions for multiagent networks...

However, both epidural blocks and opioid-based analgesia have limitations in application. Here, we present a case of supra-infraumbilical laparotomy in a patient whose history of neurostimulator use and marked scoliosis discouraged the placement of an epidural catheter and whose prior adverse response to opioids prohibited their use. Current wisdom indicates that mtDNA is susceptible to damage by mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (mtROS). This review presents the cellular and molecular mechanisms of cardiac aging, including autophagy, chronic...

The black box model of a dynamic system usually consists of just input and output. There is no correlation or coupling between the input and output. This paper proposes a self-coupling black box model method to realize the coupling between its input and output by introducing “virtual variables” to the black box model of a dynamic system considering the advantages of artificial neural network (ANN) in the system. The ANN is used for black box modeling. The modeling process of the self-coupling black...

In this paper, the whale optimization algorithm (WOA) is applied to the inverse scattering of an imperfect conductor with corners. The WOA is a new metaheuristic optimization algorithm. It mimics the hunting behavior of humpback whales. The inspiration results from the fact that a whale recognizes the location of a prey (i.e., optimal solution) by swimming around the prey within a shrinking circle and along a spiral-shaped path simultaneously. Initially, the inverse scattering is first transformed...
