UV light and temperature induced fluridone degradation in water and sediment and potential transport into aquifer.
Related Articles UV light and temperature induced fluridone degradation in water and sediment and potential transport into aquifer. Environ Pollut. 2020 Oct;265(Pt A):114750 Authors: Wickham P, Pandey P, Harter T, Sandovol-Solis S Abstract Fluridone is widely used in ambient water bodies to control the spread of invasive aquatic plants. While the ability of fluridone to control aquatic weeds such as water hyacinth is well reported, an improved...

Inactivation of Bacillus and Clostridium Spores in Coconut Water by Ultraviolet Light.
Related Articles Inactivation of Bacillus and Clostridium Spores in Coconut Water by Ultraviolet Light. Foodborne Pathog Dis. 2019 10;16(10):704-711 Authors: Pendyala B, Patras A, Gopisetty VVS, Sasges M, Balamurugan S Abstract Bacterial spores are generally more resistant than vegetative bacteria to ultraviolet (UV) inactivation. The UV sensitivity of these spores must be known for implementing UV disinfection of low acid liquid foods. UV inactivation...

Correlated evolution of biparental incubation and sexual tail monomorphism in swallows and martins (Aves: Hirundinidae)
Abstract The evolution of sexually dimorphic ornamentation should reflect sex differences in a form of parental care, incubation behavior, but empirical support is scarce after controlling for phylogenetic inertia. Here, using phylogenetic comparative methods in swallows and martins (Aves: Hirundinidae), we studied the evolution of sexual dimorphism in tail length in relation to two incubation types, female-only and biparental incubation. We found that species with biparental...

Attenuated phenotypic responses of lizard morphology to logging and fire-related forest disturbance
Abstract Animals that face natural and human-mediated landscape disturbance processes can demonstrate different modalities of phenotypic variation to influence local population persistence. Differences in the frequency and pervasiveness of environmental variation can cause an individual’s phenotype to demonstrate either directional plasticity (i.e., environmental matching), canalization, or increased trait variance. Furthermore, how important a trait’s influence is on fitness...

Effect of different restorative crown design and materials on stress distribution in endodontically treated molars: a finite element analysis study
Abstract Background The purposes of this simulation study were to evaluate the stresses in the roots of endodontically treated molars with extensive coronal tissue loss which were restored by endocrowns (all-in-one core and crown) and traditional crowns with post-cores, during masticatory simulation using finite element analysis. Methods ...

Outpatient dental care for people with disabilities under general anaesthesia in Switzerland
Abstract Background Life expectancy of people with permanent disabilities has increased. The dental care of these vulnerable patients is one of the greatest challenges for the dentist and the dental team due to limited or non-existent cooperation and the associated lack of health competence. In order to be able to provide safe and acceptable, quality dental treatment without psychological and physical stress for these patients,...

Marcus Gunn Jaw-Winking Synkinesis With Ipsilateral Eyelid Myokymia
Purpose: To describe a novel observation of ipsilateral eyelid myokymia in the context of Marcus Gunn jaw-winking synkinesis (MGJWS). Methods: A retrospective case series of 5 patients observed to have myokymia in the context of MGJWS in 2 tertiary hospitals in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia was conducted. Demographic profile including age and gender, and clinical features were analyzed. Results: Five patients (3 males and 2 females) with MGJWS were noted to demonstrate the phenomenon...

Sleep duration trajectories from adolescence to emerging adulthood: Findings from a population‐based birth cohort
Abstract This study aimed to describe longitudinal trajectories of sleep duration, among adolescents and adults from the Pelotas (Brazil) 1993 Birth Cohort, as well as characterize different trajectories groups according to socioeconomic, demographic and behavior characteristics. Sleep duration, hours per day (from Monday to Friday), bedtime and wake‐up time were self‐reported by participants at ages 11, 18 and 22 years. Covariables included socioeconomic, demographic, health and behavior characteristics....

Systematic decrease of slow‐wave sleep after a guided imagery designed to deepen sleep in low hypnotizable subjects
Abstract Slow‐wave sleep is one of the most important restorative components of sleep and central for our health and cognitive functioning. Although the amount of slow‐wave sleep depends on sleep drive, age and other factors, also the pre‐sleep mental state might influence sleep depth. We had shown that a pre‐sleep hypnotic suggestion to sleep more deeply increased slow‐wave sleep duration in hypnotizable subjects. In contrast, low‐hypnotizable participants decreased sleep depth after this intervention....

Complex Rehabilitation for an Adolescent with Ectodermal Dysplasia–A 10‐Year Follow‐Up
Abstract Maxillofacial rehabilitation of patients with ectodermal dysplasia (ED) often presents clinical challenges due to hypodontia and hypoplastic alveolar bone. This clinical report describes a 16‐year‐old patient suffering from ED who displayed severe hypodontia, maxillary retrusion and thin knife‐edge alveolar crest. This patient was treated with distraction osteogenesis and a bone graft harvested from the iliac crest to correct maxillary retrusion and bone insufficiency. Six months later,...
