2020 Chinese guidelines for ultrasound malignancy risk stratification of thyroid nodules: the C-TIRADS
Abstract Thyroid nodules are very common all over the world, and China is no exception. Ultrasound plays an important role in determining the risk stratification of thyroid nodules, which is critical for clinical management of thyroid nodules. For the past few years, many versions of TIRADS (Thyroid Imaging Reporting and Data System) have been put forward by several institutions with the aim to identify whether nodules require fine-needle biopsy or ultrasound follow-up. However,...

Benzylidene-carbonyl compounds are active against itraconazole-susceptible and itraconazole-resistant Sporothrix brasiliensis
Abstract We evaluated the antifungal activity of benzylidene-carbonyl compounds (LINS03) based on the structure of gibbilimbol from Piper malacophyllum Linn. Five analogues (1–5) were synthetized following a classic aldol condensation between an aromatic aldehyde and a ketone, under basic conditions. These were tested against itraconazole-susceptible (n = 3) and itraconazole-resistant (n = 5) isolates of Sporothrix brasiliensis by M38-A2 guidelines of CLSI. All of them were fungistatic...

Effects of early life stress on cocaine intake in male and female rhesus macaques
Abstract Rationale It is critical to identify potential risk factors, such as a history of early life stress (ELS), that may confer specific vulnerabilities to increased drug intake. Objective In this study, we examined whether male and female rhesus monkeys with a history of ELS (infant maltreatment; MALT) demonstrated significantly greater cocaine intake...

Peer review of the pesticide risk assessment of the active substance abamectin
Abstract The conclusions of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) following the peer review of the initial risk assessments carried out by the competent authorities of the rapporteur Member State, Austria, and co‐rapporteur Member State, Malta, for the pesticide active substance abamectin are reported. The context of the peer review was that required by Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) No 844/2012, as amended by Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) No 2018/1659. The conclusions were...

Atypical Posterior Reversible Encephalopathy Syndrome due to Oral Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitor Cabozantinib: First Case Report
We report here a rare case of atypical posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES) due to oral tyrosine kinase inhibitor cabozantinib. No case reports of such have been found in our literature search. The patient, a 70-year-old female with metastatic renal cell cancer on oral tyrosine kinase inhibitor cabozantinib, was brought into the emergency room because of confusion and seizures, found to have elevated blood pressure and atypical MRI findings consistent with PRES due to cabozantinib....

Where have our patients gone? The impact of COVID‐19 on stroke imaging and intervention at an Australian stroke centre
Abstract Introduction Australia has fortunately had a low prevalence coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19), and our healthcare system has not been overwhelmed. We aimed to determine whether, despite this, a decline in acute stroke presentations, imaging and intervention occurred during the pandemic at a busy stroke centre. Methods The number of ‘code stroke’ activations, multimodal CTs and endovascular clot retrievals (ECRs) performed during the pandemic period (3/1/2020–5/10/2020) at a large...

Urinary Peptides Associated Closely with Gestational Diabetes Mellitus
Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a common disease of pregnant women, which has a higher incidence in recent years. The purpose of this study is to explore urinary biomarkers that could predict and monitor gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Urine samples from 30 normal pregnant women and 78 GDM patients were collected and purified by weak cationic exchange magnetic beads (MB-WCX), then analyzed by matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF-MS)....

Early home-based pulmonary rehabilitation following acute exacerbation of COPD: A feasibility study using an action research approach
Chronic Respiratory Disease, Volume 17, Issue , January-December 2020. Objective:Pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) improves function, reduces symptoms and decreases healthcare usage in people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) following an acute exacerbation (AECOPD). However, rehabilitation uptake rates are low. This study aimed to address barriers to uptake and completion of PR following AECOPD.Methods:An action research approach was used to reflect on study feasibility, and to plan...

Decreased Preoperative Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate Was Related With Poor Prognosis of NSCLC Patients
Technology in Cancer Research &Treatment, Volume 19, Issue , January-December 2020. (1) Background:The coexistence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and cancer is common due to the increased incidence of cancer in patients with CKD. Glomerular filtration rate is the optimal way to measure kidney function. To date, little is known about the role preoperative renal function plays in the prognosis of NSCLC patients.(2) Methods:The study enrolled 140 patients who had been newly diagnosed NSCLC and...

HMGB1 Promotes the Proliferation and Metastasis of Lung Cancer by Activating the Wnt/β-Catenin Pathway
Technology in Cancer Research &Treatment, Volume 19, Issue , January-December 2020. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of high mobility group protein-1 (HMGB1) in the proliferation and migration of lung cancer cells. CCK-8 assays and colony formation assays were used to evaluate the effect of HMGB1 regulation on cancer cell viability and colony formation. Trans-well assays and wound healing assays were also performed. Our data showed that HMGB1 is upregulated in clinical lung cancer...

Suppressed “Warburg Effect” in Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma Via the Inhibition of Pyruvate Kinase Type M2-Mediated Energy Generation Pathway
Technology in Cancer Research &Treatment, Volume 19, Issue , January-December 2020. Warburg effect describes the abnormal energy metabolism in cancer cells and pyruvate kinase type M2 is involved in the regulation of this effect. In the current study, the role of pyruvate kinase type M2 in the initiation of Warburg effect in nasopharyngeal carcinoma cells was explored. The expression status of pyruvate kinase type M2 was detected in nasopharyngeal carcinoma samples and analyzed by different clinicopathological...

Use of an oxygen planar optode to assess the effect of high velocity microsprays on oxygen penetration in a human dental biofilms in-vitro
Abstract Background Dental plaque biofilms are the causative agents of caries, gingivitis and periodontitis. Both mechanical and chemical strategies are used in routine oral hygiene strategies to reduce plaque build-up. If allowed to mature biofilms can create anoxic microenvironments leading to communities which harbor pathogenic Gram-negative anaerobes. When subjected to high velocity fluid jets and sprays biofilms can be fluidized...

“Shot to the Heart”: Case Report and Concise Review of Cardiac Gunshot Injury
Journal of Investigative Medicine High Impact Case Reports, Volume 8, Issue , January-December 2020. Penetrative cardiac injury can often result in life-threatening sequelae such as myocardial contusion or rupture, coronary vessel and valvular damage, pericardial effusion with tamponade, and arrhythmias of which gunshot injury is a chief culprit. We report a case of a suspected acute coronary syndrome after a cardiac gunshot injury that was conservatively managed.
