Cytokines Secreted by Arecoline Activate Fibroblasts that Affect the Balance of TH17 and Treg
Abstract Background Oral submucous fibrosis (OSF) is a chronic progressive oral disease with cancerous tendency. Arecoline plays an important role in the pathogenesis of OSF. Fibroblasts (FBs) are the primary cells involved in the pathogenesis of OSF. There is a change in CD4+IL‐17+ helper T cells (Th17) and CD4+CD25+Foxp3+ regulatory T cells (Treg) in OSF patients, but the molecular mechanisms of are not clearly understood. In this work, we studied the molecular mechanisms. Methods Enzyme...

Incidence, timing, presentation, treatment, and outcomes of second primary head and neck squamous cell carcinoma after oral cancer
After their initial presentation of oral squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), patients have a lifelong risk of developing another new SCC of the head and neck. The aim of this study was to establish second primary rates, baseline characteristics (site, clinical or pathological stage, and smoking and alcohol history), timing, presentation, treatment, and outcomes. From the regional unit we analysed records of patients treated with curative intent for their first oral cancer between 2002 and 2007 inclusive.

Opioid guidelines for common dental surgical procedures: a multidisciplinary panel consensus
One in 16 patients prescribed opioids after a surgical procedure will become a long-term user. The lack of procedure-specific guidelines after common dental procedures contributes to the opioid overprescribing problem. We convened a multidisciplinary panel to develop consensus recommendations for opioid prescribing after common dental procedures. We used a three-step modified Delphi method to develop a consensus recommendation for outpatient opioid prescribing for 14 common dental procedures. The...
