The use of PET/MRI for imaging rectal cancer
Abstract Combined PET/MRI is a proposed imaging modality for rectal cancer, leveraging the advantages of MRI and 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose PET. Rectal cancer PET/MRI protocols typically include dedicated pelvis bed positions utilizing small field-of-view T2-weighted imaging. For staging of the primary tumor, PET/MRI can help delineate the extent of tumor better as well as the extent of tumor beyond the muscularis propria. PET uptake may help characterize small lymph nodes, and the...

Anorectal pitfalls in computed tomography colonography
Abstract There is a wide array of pathological lesions seen in the anorectal region with CT colonography (CTC), much of which is unique to this location. Many relatively common findings in the anorectal region are typically benign, but can be misinterpreted as malignant. There are also technique-related pitfalls that can impede accurate diagnosis of anorectal findings at CTC. Understanding common and uncommon lesions in the anorectal region as well as recognizing technical pitfalls...

In vivo measurement of esophageal hiatus surface area using MDCT: description of the methodology and clinical validation
Abstract Purpose Accurate estimation of esophageal hiatus surface area (HSA) prior to surgical repair of hiatal hernia is difficult. The ability to do so may assist with following progression of hiatal hernias, choosing the optimal surgical approach and post-surgical evaluation. We developed a method for measurement of HSA using multi-planar reconstruction (MPR) of multi-detector computed tomography (MDCT) scans and sought to validate...
