Associations between Folate Metabolism Enzyme Polymorphisms and Lung Cancer: A Meta-Analysis.
In conclusion, this meta-analysis indicated that MTRR rs1801394 was significantly associated with LC in smokers, and MTHFR rs1801133 polymorphisms was also significantly associated with LC in smokers and East Asians. These results suggested that these two polymorphisms could be used to identify individuals at high risk of developing LC in certain populations. Dichorionic pregnancy complicated by a twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome
Twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) is a serious complication typical of monochorionic pregnancies. Cases in dichorionic pregnancies have been described. The authors present a case report of a presumed TTTS in a dichorionic pregnancy followed at our institution in which the patient presented to the emergency department at 31 4/7 weeks’ gestation complaining of lack of fetal movements. Both fetuses did not show any cardiac activity. On the first twin, an oligohydramnios was present and his bladder...

Severe hypercalcaemia due to household cleaner ingestion
We report the case of a 59-year-old man with a history of type 2 diabetes, hypertension and chronic kidney disease who presented with symptomatic severe hypercalcaemia (calcium 15.8 mg/dL) and acute kidney injury. Evaluation revealed that the hypercalcaemia was not mediated by parathyroid hormone (PTH), PTH-related peptide or 1,25-hydroxyvitamin D. Adrenal insufficiency was subsequently diagnosed and was initially thought to be the aetiology of the hypercalcaemia. He was treated with intravenous...

BackgroundInappropriate visits to emergency departments (EDs) could represent from 20% to 40% of all visits. Inappropriate use is a burden on healthcare costs and increases the risk of ED overcrowding. The aim of this study was to explore socioeconomic and geographical determinants of inappropriate ED use in France.MethodThe French Emergency Survey was a nationwide cross-sectional survey conducted on June 11 2013, simultaneously in all EDs in France and covered characteristics of patients, EDs and...

Demand and capacity in an ADHD team: reducing the wait times for an ADHD assessment to 12 weeks
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a behavioural disorder characterised by the core symptoms of hyperactivity, impulsivity and inattention. ADHD is thought to affect about 3%–9% of school-age children and young people in the UK. With increased awareness and early identification of ADHD, and the long-term impact of the condition, there is a growing demand for ADHD services for both assessment and treatment of children and young people with the condition. Demand and capacity modelling...

Mutations in the CDSN gene cause peeling skin disease and hypotrichosis simplex of the scalp
Abstract Peeling skin disease is a rare genodermatosis characterized by superficial exfoliation or peeling of the skin. Peeling skin disease is caused by biallelic mutations in CDSN as an autosomal recessive trait. Monoallelic mutations in CDSN have also been described in an autosomal dominant inherited genodermatosis: hypotrichosis simplex of the scalp. This disease is characterized by progressive hair loss of the scalp with onset after early childhood. Clinical data were obtained from a patient...

Serum-deprived differentiated neuroblastoma F-11 cells express functional dorsal root ganglion neuron properties
The isolation and culture of dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons cause adaptive changes in the expression and regulation of ion channels, with consequences on neuronal excitability. Considering that not all neurons survive the isolation and that DRG neurons are heterogeneous, it is difficult to find the cellular subtype of interest. For this reason, researchers opt for DRG-derived immortal cell lines to investigate endogenous properties. The F-11 cell line is a hybridoma of embryonic rat DRG neurons...

Outer membrane vesicles enhance tau phosphorylation and contribute to cognitive impairment
In this study, we demonstrate that outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) derived from the faeces of Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients enter the brain, break the blood–brain barrier (BBB), induce marked neuroinflammation and specifically aggravate tau hyperphosphorylation, thus potentially inducing behavioural cognitive impairment Abstract Outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) are nanosized vesicles produced by the gut microbiota (GM). The GM is well‐known to be involved in the pathological process of Alzheimer's...

miR‐22‐3p enhances the intrinsic regenerative abilities of primary sensory neurons via the CBL/p‐EGFR/p‐STAT3/GAP43/p‐GAP43 axis
We found that miR‐22‐3p acted as an intracellular molecular to promote primary sensory neuron neurite growth by removing CBL‐induced p‐EGFR degradation. This study clarified the new neurite regulation mechanisms and provided novel treatment targets for spinal cord sensory dysfunction. Abstract Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a devastating disease. Strategies that enhance the intrinsic regenerative ability are very important for the recovery of SCI to radically prevent the occurrence of sensory disorders....

Combined effects of avasimibe immunotherapy, doxorubicin chemotherapy, and metal–organic frameworks nanoparticles on breast cancer
Abstract CD8+ T cells play a vital role in cancer immunotherapy and can be shaped by metabolism. Avasimibe is an acyl coenzyme A‐cholesterol acyltransferase (ACAT) inhibitor, which has been clinically verified safe in other phase Ⅲ clinical trials. It can potentiate the killing function of CD8+ T cells by modulating cholesterol metabolism. Doxorubicin (DOX) is an anticancer drug widely used in many cancers to induce tumor cell apoptosis. Unfortunately, DOX also can induce toxic and side effects...

MiR‐34a inhibits the proliferation, migration, and invasion of oral squamous cell carcinoma by directly targeting SATB2
miR‐34a suppressed the migration, invasion, and cell growth of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) by down regulating the special AT‐rich sequence‐binding protein 2 (SATB2) expression. Abstract In various kinds of carcinomas, the special AT‐rich sequence‐binding protein 2 (SATB2) with its atypical expression promotes the metastasis and progression of the tumor, though in the oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) its inherent mechanism and the status of SATB2 remain unclear. The role played by the...

15‐LOX‐1 has diverse roles in the resensitization of resistant cancer cell lines to doxorubicin
15‐Lipoxygenase‐1 (15‐LOX‐1) has a role in doxorubicin resistance in cancer cells. Role of 15‐LOX‐1 is cell‐ and/or drug‐specific. 15‐LOX‐1 triggers apoptosis and modulates cell membrane to induce cell death and resensitize the doxorubicin resistance in MCF7 cells. Abstract Lipoxygenases (LOXs) are a family of enzymes that can oxygenate polyunsaturated fatty acids. As a member of the family, 15‐lipoxygenase‐1 (15‐LOX‐1) specifically metabolizes arachidonic acid and linoleic acid. 15‐LOX‐1 can...

We have built a nomogram that integrated the conventional clinicopathological features and the eight‐lncRNA‐based signature. Abstract Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have the main role in the tumorigenesis of breast cancer.
