Malignant lesions in the anterior maxilla
The anterior alveolar ridge of the maxilla is a frequent site for pathology, most of it involving underlying bone and readily observable radiologically. Although much of this disease presents as well-defined unilocular radiolucencies arising adjacent to the apices of non-vital anterior teeth, thus being periapical radiolucencies of inflammatory origin (PRIO), a minority reflects more serious disease such as neoplasia. Evidence for Human Cell Division Rates to Decrease with Age
We humans exhibit a peak cancer incidence in old age, around the early 80s, after which cancer rates decline from that peak. If aging is the continual accumulation of damage, then why do we observe this pattern of cancer incidence with age rather than a continual increase over time? It does not occur in mice, after all. Researchers here provide evidence for the explanation to involve reduced rates of cell division in later life, which may be one of many evolutionary adaptations connected to the unusual...

Application effect of apatinib in patients with failure of standard treatment for advanced malignant tumours.
CONCLUSION: For patients with advanced malignant tumours with failure of standard therapy, administration of apatinib can still result in good efficacy. The efficacy of apatinib is better in patients with a higher performance status and lower degree of tumour progression. PMID: 31661009 [PubMed - in process] (Source: BMC Pharmacology and Toxicology)

The course of hepatitis c infection and response to anti-viral therapy in patients with thalassemia major and hepatitis c infection: a longitudinal, prospective study.
Conclusions: Patients with acute HCV and thalassemia have low rates of spontaneous resolution of HCV infection and the majority develop chronic HCV. Direct acting antiviral combinations are associated with high SVR rates and low adverse event in treatment na ïve and experienced patients with chronic HCV and thalassemia. Liver fibrosis is accelerated in thalassemia patients with chronic HCV, therefore, early diagnosis, treatment with DAAs, adequate iron chelation and non-invasive monitoring liver...

Diagnostic performance and safety of bronchoalveolar lavage in thrombocytopenic haematological patients for aspergillosis diagnosis: a monocentric, retrospective experience.
Conclusions: BAL was a safe procedure also in thrombocytopenic patients, permitting an IPA diagnosis not otherwise identifiable using EORTC/MSG criteria. Our data suggest that a BAL GM value of>0.8 represents the most useful cut-off in terms of sensibility and specificity. Further prospective studies on a larger number of patients are needed to confirm these results. (Source: Mediterranean Journal of Hematology and Infectious Diseases)

Vestibular Implantation and the Feasibility of Fluoroscopy-Guided Electrode Insertion
Recent research has shown promising results for the development of a clinically feasible vestibular implant in the near future. However, correct electrode placement remains a challenge. It was shown that fluoroscopy was able to visualize the semicircular canal ampullae and electrodes, and guide electrode insertion in real time. Ninety-four percent of the 18 electrodes were implanted correctly ( (Source: Otolaryngologic clinics of North America)
