Morphological analysis of ischemia-reperfusion injury in a cold ischemia model of jejunal free flap for hypopharyngeal reconstruction
: Jejunal free flap (JFF) reconstruction is a popular treatment option for advanced hypopharyngeal cancer. Several factors, including ischemia-reperfusion injury, can cause mucosal damage and progressive flap necrosis. We investigated the development and time-related progression of morphological and cellular changes in patients with JFF reconstruction including cold preservation of the graft.

A complete lower lip and chin unit resurfacing with expanded cheek flaps: a modified approach with minimal influence on facial cosmetic units
Lower lip and chin reconstruction is challenging for plastic surgeons. Small to medium skin defects on lower face can be removed by staged serial excision or be reconstructed with local flaps1 or submental artery perforator island flaps.2 Large skin defects are usually needed by full thickness sheet grafts, tissue expansions or free flaps.3 However, both skin grafts and free flaps are hindered by the poor skin colour and texture match. To achieve the ideal reconstruction of lower lip and chin, expanded...

Extended Thenar Flap for Two Adjacent Fingertip Amputations
The thenar flap is a well-described technique, but reports about its use in patients with multiple fingertip injuries are limited. This study aimed to introduce a surgical technique of using an extended thenar flap for two adjacent fingertip amputations and to evaluate the clinical outcomes and related complications. From October 2013 to October 2016, 12 patients (24 fingers) underwent soft tissue reconstruction of two adjacent fingers with an extended thenar flap. At the last follow-up, the patients...

A case series of breast reconstruction for amastia in a family with ectodermic dysplasia
Ectodermic dysplasia corresponds to genetic pathologies characterized by two or more defects that involved ectodermal-derived structures. Breast anomalies in female patients were uncommon. Just a few articles in the literature retrieved this association. The main anomalies concerning breast region were amastia and areolar complex malformation. Two types of reconstruction have been already studied: implants with or without tissue preexpansion, and autologous flap like latissimus dorsi or DIEP. We...

Validation of two handheld devices against a non-portable three-dimensional surface scanner and assessment of potential use for intraoperative facial imaging
The aim of this study was to compare accuracy and timing of two handheld, mobile three-dimensional surface imaging (3DSI) devices against an established non-portable medical imaging system, and to evaluate future intraoperative use for facial surgery.

The accuracy of virtual surgical planning assisted management for maxillary hypoplasia in adult patients with cleft lip and palate
The management of maxillary hypoplasia in patients with cleft lip and palate (CLP) remains a significant clinical challenge. The objective of this retrospective study is to evaluate the accuracy of virtual surgical planning (VSP) with different maxillary advancement techniques.

Multi-Segment Bioimpedance Can Assess Patients with Bilateral Lymphedema
Bioimpedance spectroscopy (BIS) is used to assess lymphedema by measuring limb fluid content as an electric current passes through cell membranes and tissues. There are two primary device modalities through which BIS is used clinically: single-segmental bioimpedance (SSB) and multi-segment bioimpedance (MSB), which differ in their mechanisms of gathering measurements. In this cross-sectional study, we study the difference between SSB and MSB in evaluating lymphedema by referencing the results with...
