Robot-assisted laparoscopic retroperitoneal lymph node dissection with concomitant inferior vena cava thrombectomy for metastatic mixed testicular germ cell cancer: a case report
ConclusionThis is the first case of robot-assisted laparoscopic retroperitoneal lymph node dissection with concomitant inferior vena cava thrombectomy and reconstruction for metastatic mixed testicular germ cell cancer published to date. This complicated surgical procedure was facilitated by the innovative usage of three-dimensional image reconstruction for defining the vena cava tumor thrombus, a robotic ultrasound probe for intraoperatively defining the vena cava tumor thrombus, and vena cavoscopy...

Prognostic impacts of the combined positive score and the tumor proportion score for programmed death ligand-1 expression by double immunohistochemical staining in patients with advanced gastric cancer
ConclusionsCPS was shown to be a more useful assessment method of determining PD-L1 expression than TPS as a prognostic biomarker. This suggests that the total number of PD-L1-expressing cells, including tumor and immune cells, is a more sensitive prognostic biomarker than the number of PD-L1-expressing tumor cells in GC. Sentinel lymph node biopsy for melanoma of the head and neck: a multicentre study to examine safety, efficacy, and prognostic value
Sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) is an accurate staging procedure for malignant melanoma but its use in patients with melanoma of the head and neck has been questioned in the past because of a perceived record of poor safety and accuracy. Technical improvements have sought to redress this.Vital structures and variable lymphatic pathways can make its use in the head and neck challenging. In our study we have examined the data and the experiences of clinicians from University Hospital Southampton...

The role of Desmoglein 1 in gap junction turnover revealed through the study of SAM syndrome
An effective epidermal barrier requires structural and functional integration of adherens junctions, tight junctions, gap junctions (GJ), and desmosomes. Desmosomes govern epidermal integrity while GJs facilitate small molecule transfer across cell membranes. Some patients with Severe dermatitis, multiple Allergies, and Metabolic wasting (SAM) syndrome, caused by biallelic Desmoglein 1 (DSG1) mutations, exhibit skin lesions reminiscent of Erythrokeratodermia Variabilis, caused by mutations in Connexin...

Intravenous immunoglobulin promotes the proliferation of CD4+CD25+ Foxp3+ regulatory T cells and the cytokines secretion in patients with Guillain-Barr é syndrome in vitro
Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg) serves as the first line therapy in Guillain-Barr é syndrome (GBS), however, its action mechanism remains unknown. We hereby stimulated peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from patients with GBS and healthy controls using IVIg and an IgG-derived natural Treg epitopes, namely Tregitopes. Our results showed that IVIg significantly promoted bo th the expansion of CD4+CD25+Foxp3+ regulatory T cells (Tregs) and secretion of IL-10 and TGF-β1 while Tregitopes promoted...

Clinical effect and safety of dendritic cell–cytokine-induced killer cell immunotherapy for pancreatic cancer: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionIn contrast to traditional therapy, DC-CIK immunotherapy not only shows improved short-term effect, long-term effect and immunologic function, but also reduces mortality and negative immunoregulatory index, and shows mild adverse reactions. This is the first study to evaluate the clinical effect and safety of DC-CIK immunotherapy for PC, and it indicated that DC-CIK immunotherapy may be suitable for patients with advanced PC or intolerance to radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Intravenous Propofol Versus Volatile Anesthetics For Stroke Endovascular Thrombectomy
Background: The choice of anesthetic technique for ischemic stroke patients undergoing endovascular thrombectomy is controversial. Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus-encoded ORF8b strongly antagonizes IFN-β promoter activation: its implication for vaccine design
Abstract Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) is a causative agent of severe-to-fatal pneumonia especially in patients with pre-existing conditions, such as smoking and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). MERS-CoV transmission continues to be reported in the Saudi Arabian Peninsula since its discovery in 2012. However, it has rarely been epidemic outside the area except one large outbreak in South Korea in May 2015. The genome of the epidemic MERS-CoV...

Toxoflavin and tropolone are produced by these phytopathogens and are considered the most hostile biohazards with a broad spectrum of target organisms. However, despite their nonspecific toxicity, the effects of toxoflavin and tropolone on bacteria remain unknown. RNA-seq based transcriptome...

Over time, this damage can raise a person’s risk for cataracts, which impair vision. “When you don’t wear protection, ultraviolet radiation you cannot see is penetrating the eye,...
