Σε αυτό το συμπέρασμα κατέληξε μελέτη του International Journal of Clinical Practice.

Sex dependency of estrogen‐induced structural synaptic plasticity: inhibition of aromatase versus application of estradiol in rodents
Abstract Sex dependent differences in learning and memory formation in humans have been frequently shown. The mechanisms underlying the formation and retention of memories are assumed to involve synaptic plasticity in the hippocampus. Estradiol was shown to effect synaptic plasticity in the hippocampus of rodents. The effects after exogenous application of estradiol to animals frequently produce inconsistent results, in particular if sex is not considered in the studies. Recently we provided evidence...

Commensal bacteria regulate gene expression and differentiation in vertebrate olfactory systems through transcription factor REST
AbstractSensory systems such as the olfactory system detect chemical stimuli and thereby determine the relationships between the animal and its surroundings. Olfaction is one of the most conserved and ancient sensory systems in vertebrates. The vertebrate olfactory epithelium is colonized by complex microbial communities, but microbial contribution to host olfactory gene expression remains unknown. In this study, we show that colonization of germ-free zebrafish and mice with microbiota leads to widespread...

Longitudinal MRI findings in patient with SLC25A12 pathogenic variants inform disease progression and classification
Abstract Aspartate–glutamate carrier 1 (AGC1) is one of two exchangers within the malate‐aspartate shuttle. AGC1 is encoded by the SLC25A12 gene. Three patients with pathogenic variants in SLC25A12 have been reported in the literature. These patients were clinically characterized by neurodevelopmental delay, epilepsy, hypotonia, cerebral atrophy, and hypomyelination; however, there has been discussion in the literature as to whether this hypomyelination is primary or secondary to a neuronal defect....

Lenz–Majewski syndrome in a patient from Egypt
Abstract Lenz–Majewski syndrome (LMS) is an extremely rare type of cutis laxa caused by dominant mutations in PTDSS1 gene. We report an Egyptian patient who presented with cutis laxa, brachydactyly, and progeroid features. LMS syndrome was suspected and a previously reported de novo heterozygous missense mutation (c.284G > T, p.R95L) in PTDSS1 was identified. To the best of our knowledge, nine molecularly proven patients with LMS from different ethnicities have been reported. Our patient is the...

Hsa‐miR‐139‐5p is a prognostic thyroid cancer marker involved in HNRNPF‐mediated alternative splicing
It is critical to identify biomarkers and functional networks associated with aggressive thyroid cancer to anticipate disease progression and facilitate personalized patient management. We performed miRNome sequencing of 46 thyroid tumors enriched with advanced disease patients with a median follow‐up of 96 months. MiRNome profiles correlated with tumor‐specific histopathological and molecular features, such as stromal cell infiltration and tumor driver mutation. Differential expression analysis...

Progesterone receptor status modifies the association between body mass index and prognosis in women diagnosed with estrogen receptor positive breast cancer
The role of progesterone receptor (PR) status on the association between obesity and prognosis of estrogen receptor positive (ER+) breast cancer (BC) remains poorly understood. We aim to examine whether this association varies according to the tumor PR status. Data for 3747 women diagnosed with non‐metastatic ER+ invasive BC between 1995 and 2010 were analyzed. Women were classified according to their body mass index (BMI) (<18.5, 18.5‐24.9, 25.0‐29.9 or ≥30.0 kg/m2). Tumor PR status (PR–, PR+)...

Evidence and impact of neutrophil extracellular traps in malignant melanoma
Summary Ulceration of melanoma is associated with neutrophil infiltrates and lower survival rates opposite to non‐ulcerated melanoma. Neutrophils release neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) that are chromatin structures loaded with anti‐microbial proteins. Since NETs have been correlated with tumor progression we investigated whether NETs appear in melanoma and affect melanoma cells. Indeed, human primary melanoma biopsies revealed neutrophils releasing NETs in all of 27 ulcerated melanomas,...
