Abstract Appropriately adjusting to errors is essential for adaptive behavior. Post‐error slowing (PES) refers to the increased reaction times on trials following incorrect relative to correct responses. PES has been used as a metric of cognitive control in basic cognitive neuroscience research as well as clinical contexts. However, calculation of PES varies widely among studies and has not yet been standardized, despite recent calls to optimize its measurement. Here, using behavioral and electrophysiological...

CozzensBackground5-amniolevulinic acid (5-ALA) assists neurosurgeons in defining operative margins during resection of high-grade gliomas, leading to improved rates of complete resection of enhancing tumor and progression-free survival. Here, we propose the use of 5-ALA in stereotactic biopsy for confirmation that the sample obtained is from the targeted mass. To the knowledge of the authors,...

However, we describe the formation of brain abscesses after endovascular treatment of a brain arteriovenous malformation (bAVM) and how important removal of the...

Background and Objectives Biofilms cause more than 80% of infections in humans, including more than 90% of all chronic wound infections and are extremely resistant to antimicrobials and the immune system. The situation is exacerbated by the fast spreading of antimicrobial resistance, which has become one of the biggest threats to current public health. There is consequently a critical need for the development of alternative therapeutics. Antimicrobial blue light (aBL) is a light‐based approach that...
Background and Objectives To validate and analyze the results of intralesional photodynamic therapy in the treatment of complex anal fistula. Study Design/Materials and Methods This prospective multicentric observational study enrolled patients treated for complex anal fistula who underwent intralesional photodynamic therapy (i‐PDT). The included patients were treated from January 2016 to December 2018 with a minimum follow‐up of 1 year to evaluate recurrence, continence and postoperative...
Background and Objectives The ability to provide improved tattoo fading using multiple laser passes in a single office laser tattoo removal session is limited. In part, this is due to the loss of laser effectiveness caused by epidermal and dermal vacuole “whitening” generated during the initial laser pass at the tattoo site. The Rapid Acoustic Pulse (RAP) device generates acoustic shock wave pulses that clear epidermal and dermal vacuoles to enable multiple laser passes in a single office laser...

To the Editor We read with interest the article by Nickel et al. The results of the study indicated that patients with differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) treated by hemithyroidectomy enjoyed better quality of survival and fewer complications than those by total thyroidectomy. The authors recommended that hemithyroidectomy might be a more appropriate surgical therapy for small, localized DCT.
To the Editor We read with great interest the article “Assessment of the Clinical Benefit of Imaging in Children With Unilateral Sensorineural Hearing Loss: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis” by Ropers et al, and we would like to add a comment on the opportunity to have an early computed tomographic (CT) scan for unilateral sensorineural hearing loss (USHL) assessment.
In Reply We appreciate Dr Chow’s interest in our study. We agree that having a central lymph node dissection might affect patients’ reported health-related quality of life (HRQOL). In our cohort, 29% of those who had a total thyroidectomy had concurrent central lymph node dissection. We have now further explored whether this affected the association between thyroidectomy and HRQOL in 2 ways. First, we included this as a variable in our multivariable analyses. Compared with having a hemithyroidectomy,...
This case report describes a woman who presented with bilateral nasal obstruction, thick nasal discharge, and facial pain and pressure, recalcitrant to 3 prior surgeries, immunotherapy, and medical therapy, and subsequently developed a left abducens nerve palsy resulting from local anesthesia after revision endoscopic sinus surgery.

In Reply We read with great interest the letter in response to our systematic review on the clinical benefit of imaging in children with unilateral sensorineural hearing loss (USNHL) by Muzzi et al. We thank the authors for pointing out the association between recurrent meningitis and inner ear malformations (IEMs). We fully agree that in children with meningitis and congenital sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL), cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leakage from IEM should be excluded by otoscopy and imaging.

In this issue of JAMA Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery, Valderrabano et al report provocative findings on the performance of a widely used molecular test for thyroid nodules. The authors’ goal was to determine whether the performance of this assay, the Afirma gene expression classifier (GEC; Veracyte), in the real world has matched the figures in the initial validation study that led to the approval and widespread adoption of the GEC. Undertaking a systematic review of 19 studies encompassing...
