Age and preoperative velar closure ratio are significantly associated with surgical outcome of Furlow double-opposing Z-plasty in palatal re-repair
Patient selection criteria for Furlow double-opposing Z-plasty in palatal re-repair remain obscure. The present study investigated whether patients’ preoperative characteristics significantly affected the surgical outcome of Furlow double-opposing Z-plasty in palatal re-repair.
Comparison Preemptive Oral Celecoxib Versus Acetaminophen for Postoperative Pain Management after Third Molar Surgery: a Randomized Controlled Study
This study aimed to compare the preemptive analgesia of oral celecoxib with oral acetaminophen after the surgical removal of the mandibular third molars.
IS ULTRASONIC BONE SCALPEL USEFUL IN LE FORT I OSTEOTOMY?
Safety and precision are two main goals in research to improve bone cutting in maxillofacial surgery. The aim of this prospective clinical study was to analyze the outcomes using the ultrasonic bone scalpel versus piezoelectric surgery and the conventional technique in Le Fort I osteotomy.
Difference in the effects of lidocaine with adrenaline and prilocaine with felypressin on the autonomic nervous system during extraction of the impacted mandibular third molar: A randomized control trial
Complications during local anesthesia include increase in blood pressure and vasovagal reflex, which are caused by changes in the autonomic nervous system. The commonly used local anesthetics preparations are lidocaine, to which the vasoconstrictor adrenaline is added (lidocaine/adrenaline), and prilocaine, to which the vasoconstrictor felypressin is added (prilocaine/felypressin); however, their effects during dental treatment are unclear. We examined the effects of these two different local anesthetics preparations on the autonomic nervous system and circulation during extraction of the impacted mandibular third molar.
What is the healthcare burden of treating pediatric dental infections as an inpatient?

An Institutional Review: Which Metrics Correlate to a Successful United States Medical Licensing Exam Step 1 Score?
Since the introduction of the Comprehensive Basic Science Exam (CBSE) as an entrance examination in 2012, no studies have been performed correlating its relationship to passing rates of the United States Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) Step 1 in dental students. This study was designed to determine the impact of the CBSE, dental GPA, and undergraduate GPA on USMLE Step 1 performance and develop a CBSE score cut-off that correlates to a passing USMLE score.

Is it Time to Relegate Routine Opioid Prescriptions to the Oral Surgery Archives?
The end of the 1970s ushered in what became an accepted standard of care for most of medicine and dentistry, including oral and maxillofacial surgery: Hydrocodone with acetaminophen was introduced as Vicodin (Knoll Pharmaceutical Company, Whippany, NJ) in 1978 and rapidly embraced by providers to treat all types of pain. Curiously, centuries-old concerns about opioid addiction were largely set aside, and hydrocodone-acetaminophen combinations became the most-prescribed drugs in the US by the early 2000s and remain in the top ten.
Nonvascularised Iliac Bone Reconstruction for Mandible without Maxillofacial Skin Scaring
There are many methods to reconstruct the mandible, but they are often accompanied by trauma, which can lead to scaring of the maxillofacial skin. The purpose of this study was to demonstrate the utility of a minimally invasive method for reconstruction of the mandible with nonvascularised iliac bone grafts without a skin scar, and to evaluate the success rate and complications.
