Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer among women globally, with an estimated 570 000 new cases and 311 000 deaths worldwide in 2018.1 The incidence is especially high in low-income and middle-income countries, where about 85% of all global cases of locally advanced cervical cancer are detected and where sufficient resources, especially radiotherapy facilities, are scarce or unavailable.2 The situation is compounded by high burdens in rural areas, where access to health care is especially challenging.
