The Chinese National Twin Registry: a ‘gold mine’ for scientific research
Abstract The Chinese National Twin Registry (CNTR) currently includes data from 61 566 twin pair from 11 provinces or cities in China. Of these, 31 705, 15 060 and 13 531 pairs are monozygotic, same‐sex dizygotic and opposite‐sex dizygotic pairs, respectively, determined by opposite sex or intrapair similarity. Since its establishment in 2001, the CNTR has provided an important resource for analysing genetic and environmental influences on chronic diseases especially cardiovascular diseases....

Hyperlipidemia Prevalence and Cholesterol Control in Obstructive Sleep Apnea: Data from the European Sleep Apnea Database (ESADA)
Abstract Background and objective Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and hyperlipidemia are independent risk factors for cardiovascular disease. This study investigates the association between OSA and prevalence of hyperlipidemia in patients of the European Sleep Apnea Database (ESADA) cohort. Methods The cross‐sectional analysis included 11,892 patients (age 51.9±12.5 years, 70% male, body mass index (BMI) 31.3±6.6 kg/m2, mean Oxygen Desaturation Index (ODI) 23.7±25.5 events/h) investigated...

GlycA, a novel pro‐inflammatory glycoprotein biomarker is associated with mortality: Results from The PREVEND study and meta‐analysis
Abstract Objective Chronic diseases are associated with an inflammatory response. We determined the association of two inflammatory markers, GlycA and high sensitivity C‐reactive protein (hsCRP), with overall and cause‐specific mortality in a cohort of men and women. Methods Cox regression analyses were used to examine associations of GlycA and hsCRP with all‐cause, cancer and cardiovascular mortality in 5,526 subjects (PREVEND cohort; average follow‐up 12.6 years). Results...

Effectiveness of maternal immunization with trivalent inactivated influenza vaccine in pregnant women and their infants
Abstract Background In randomized trials, it has been found that maternal influenza vaccination reduces influenza infections in both women and their infants. However, these trials have been performed in low‐resource settings, and evidence from high‐resource settings is limited. Methods Nested within a register‐based cohort of all women giving birth in Denmark between 2010 and 2016 (n = 357 810 births), we conducted two case–control studies using a test‐negative design of all pregnant...
