Against-Medical-Advice Discharges: What They Can Teach us About Respecting Patient Rights and Preventing Patient Harm
In this live webinar, VHA healthcare professionals will learn how to manage ethical issues related to against-medical-advice, or “AMA” discharges. Dr. David Alfandre and Dr. Virginia (Ashby) Sharpe of the National Center for Ethics in Health Care will discuss using a patient-centered approach to shared-decision making as a way of respecting patient rights and preventing patient harm. The speakers will discuss how principles of harm reduction in the context of AMA discharges can also be applied to other aspects of clinical care.
