Social media searches for gun owners

Illinois considers social media searches for gun owners:

Illinois lawmakers are considering whether or not they should require someone to hand over a list of all of the social media accounts they have ever used before being allowed to be buy a gun.

The bill would mandate someone applying for an FOID card turn over the list to authorities. The Illinois State Police Dept. would then use that information to determine if there were any reason to disqualify that individual from buying a gun.

Opponents called the bill an invasion of privacy and said it violated the 2nd Amendment, WIFR reports.

It was sponsored by Democrats Rep. Daniel Didech and Rep. Jonathan Carroll. It has been referred to the rules committee.
